Independent livings are privately-owned or operated homes or complexes that provide shared housing for adults with disabilities, including mental illness, and others who may benefit from a shared living environment. Tenants in independent livings are able to live independently, are often on a fixed income, and do not need supervision or care from their landlord. The Independent Living Association (ILA) is a collaborative community-wide effort focused on supporting independent living operators, tenants and the community by promoting high quality independent livings. The ILA is a resource to turn to for objective, unbiased information about independent livings in several California counties.
